Speed test
What is an internet speed test?
An internet speed test measures the performance of your connection to the internet. It typically checks your download speed (how fast data travels to your device), upload speed (how fast data leaves your device), and ping/latency (how quickly your connection responds to a request). The results are expressed in Mbps (megabits per second) for speed and milliseconds (ms) for latency.
Why should you use an internet speed test?
A speed test helps you understand whether you’re actually getting the internet speeds your provider promised, diagnose slow or unreliable connections, decide whether your connection is suitable for activities like video calls, streaming, or gaming, and have concrete data when contacting your ISP to report a problem.
Is the internet speed test tool free?
Yes, completely free. There’s no account, no sign-up, and no cost to use it.
How does the internet speed test tool work?
The tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing is installed on your device. It first measures your ping by timing several small requests to Cloudflare’s servers and averaging the results, trimming outliers for accuracy. It then measures your download speed by fetching a large file from Cloudflare’s speed test infrastructure and calculating how many megabits were transferred per second over the duration of the test. All processing happens client-side; your results are never stored or sent anywhere.
